Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia (August 4th, 2022): Under the theme “Ignite The Careerpreneur In Brand You”,
Shermalyn Sidonie-John gives a snapshot of how she transformed her misfortune into a noteworthy career, but
never forgot her arduous journey to self-actualization and success. One of two Saint Lucians invited to share
their knowledge, the 5 feet 2 inches from the ground powerhouse commanded the TEDx Talk stage to share her
experience and encourage others. Proudly representing our small island, she stood confident but humbled by
this incredulous hallmark in her journey.
TEDx Talk much like the TED Talks, encourages open discourse in a shorten format. Speakers must provide
bias-free content as the main aim of the forum is to spark conversation, forge connections and build a strong
community. When invited to present at an upcoming event, Shermalyn was both bewildered and enthused by
the prospect.
Shermalyn has created a safe space to empower female leaders who have gone through career meltdowns,
overlooked for promotions or those who are simply working in overdrive all the time. As detailed in her TEDx
Talk, it’s imperative to forgo geographical constraints when developing your career and better prepare for the
harsh realities of the world we live in.
According Mrs. Sidonie-John, “I believe in the power of empowering women. Unfortunately, we are
marginalised in the corporate world globally with women holding only 24% of senior leadership roles.”
She added, “If women become intentional about building Global, Influential and Profitable Personal Brands
and position themselves as go-to-leaders in their industry and beyond they fast track their career success. It’s
imperative that we start converting ourselves into profitable assets to stand out and be successful not only for
ourselves or company, but for our families.”
As part of the support system she provides free advice, seminars and coaching on her social media group at
Influential Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs. Shermalyn also actively works one on one with female
leaders and service professionals who want to bolster their careers and build brands which bulletproof their
success.
